New End of Life Masterclass now available on ShinyMind Nursing Edition

On International Nurses’ Day, we officially launched a new End of Life Masterclass now available on the ShinyMind Nursing Edition. This resource offers practical support to help people navigate the challenges of managing endings at work. Co-created with St Christopher’s Hospice, this resource was made possible through the kind legacy of Siân Evans and her family – supporting a cause that meant so much to Siân and helping others in her memory.

“Anything that supports the mental health of nurses and enables them to continue to provide high quality relational care is a cause for celebration. Relationships and wellbeing are at the heart of a good experience of end of life – for patients and those close to them and all involved in their care. This new offer, focused on end of life, recognises the growing demands on nurses who are working with death and loss and offers a rich mix of information, activities and support in response. For nurses in palliative care the app is a must – enabling them to continue making a real difference to those in their care, whilst protecting and nurturing themselves.” Heather Richardson – Senior consultant, Professional Learning at St Christopher’s Hospice

In memory of Siân Evans: Legacy Behind This Work

“We are so grateful for the generosity of friends and family to my darling wife’s legacy fund with St Christopher’s Hospice. Siân’s areas of work had been in nursing and counselling. We have supported two Communities of Practice for Nurses in End-of-life care (EoLC), and one for doctors. We are now delighted to enable the ShinyMind team to develop a Masterclass with our hospice and to make ShinyMind available to 3000 hospice nurses around the country. We are very aware of the many different pressures of working in EoLC, and are so pleased to be helping to develop this resource to support the expertise, resilience and emotional health of those working in this field. This fits so perfectly with what was important in Siân’s working life, and what has become increasingly important to us as a family since her death.”

The Journey to Launch

This project began with an initial discovery session to better understand the support needs of hospice staff and how best to help them in their roles. After gathering feedback on an early draft of the Masterclass roadmap, the ShinyMind team developed the content and shared back with stakeholders for further feedback, before being officially deployed to 3,000 hospice staff in April 2025.

The masterclass offers easy-to-use resources — including short videos, audio clips, and interactive tools — covering important topics such as:

  • Building confidence
  • Managing emotions and setting boundaries
  • Having compassionate conversations
  • Reflecting on experiences
  • Coping with grief and loss

The End of Life Masterclass has also become a permanent part of the ShinyMind Nursing Version, ensuring ongoing support for those working in end-of-life and palliative care.

Honouring Those Who Care for Others

At the heart of this project is a commitment to supporting those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. We are honoured to have worked alongside St Christopher’s Hospice and to be part of Siân Evans’ lasting legacy, helping to shape a future where hospice staff feel valued, supported, and emotionally equipped for their vital work.
